Writer's Block: Space Wars
May. 19th, 2009 03:56 pm[Error: unknown template qotd]Battlestar Galactica (2003), hands down. It's a space show, and yet more often than not it's also a human show. It lets you see the colorful sides of human nature when less than 50,000 people are crammed into a few ships after the apocalypse comes. There aren't any aliens and stuff (because the Cylons are just as human as the humans are), which makes fanfic a lot easier because then you don't have to look up the customs for that race of aliens (one of the reasons why it's so hard to write LotR fanfic...bloody Elves and Dwarves and their bloody customs...). Because BSG's characters are so complex and play out so nicely, you can see them in some fanfic situations. Maybe that's why writing BSG fanfic has been...well, simpler than other fandoms, maybe. And besides, the fandom in itself is frakking awesome. We've got great iconmakers, great fanartists, great vidders, great fanmixers, great fanwriters, and beyond fan-frakking-tastic fans. I'm glad I discovered this fandom and I think we're one of the greatest out there, so say we all.
